Glittered Pumpkins

  IMG_0457

We are so decorating for Halloween already in our house!  Aiden keeps asking if it’s “Hawoween” everyday.  I love to see his excitement and it makes me want to keep decorating.

I can’t take credit for these as I found them listed as an idea on the Martha Stewart website.

I found some cute fake pumpkins at Michael’s for $2.99 and some of the Martha Stewart glitter.  This glitter is awesome!  I grabbed my trusty spray adhesive and a little helper (not really much of help though)!

I put them in my china hutch and love the sparkle they throw off when the light is turned on! The top pumpkin is a white pumpkin with some fake accent leaves.

Pottery Barn Inspired Art

       IMG_0429

I was looking through a Pottery Barn catalog and was inspired by this kitchen décor.  I decided to make my own!

             image

I was able to find the letters at JoAnn’s and applied two coats of black paint.  Too easy!

Owl Wall Art

Katie’s new room is nature themed.  I found this super cute comforter set at Target and decided to make some wall art to go with it.

I started with a pack of canvas and painted them with a solid color.

I then cut out the images I wanted on my Silhouette and used spray adhesive to attach them to the dried canvas.

To finish them, I painted them with a coating of Modge Podge using a foam brush.  The Modge Podge dried and left them with a little shine.

And here is the finished project!

Cars Themed Goodie Bags

IMG_0356

I made these for Aiden’s 3rd birthday back in June.  I found all of the goodies at Michaels for $1 a pack and the party decorations were on clearance.  I imported a picture of Lightning McQueen to my Silhouette software and added the text.  The font used for the title shot of Cars is magneto.  I was able to cut out the Lightning McQueen from the top and add a perforation so that the card would fold over the goodie bag.

New Home, New Adventure

We have been in our new home for about a month now and what a busy month it has been!  It was a long process to find a home and to purchase it!

Our home had been sitting empty for about 2 years so; while it us in good shape, it has a lot of work that needs to be done.  The floors definitely had 2 years of dust on them!  The biggest project will probably be the front and backyard.  Stay tuned for all of my projects on creating our dream home!  Thanks for tuning in!

We were in such a hurry to move in, that I didn’t take any before shots of the house.  These pictures are from the real estate website, but show were we are starting off at!

Home front

(The front lawn is all dead and the sprinklers where broken.)

Kitchen

(We’ve already replaced the dirty appliances with new stainless ones)

Loft

(Loft area, I was really drawn to the dark laminate flooring.)

Entrance to master

(Entrance to master bedroom, I love all the built in cabinets!!)

Master bath1

(Dual master bathroom sinks)

Master bath2

(Master bath shower and garden tub!)

Backyard

(Ugly, unfinished backyard with a lot of potential!)

Happy crafting!

A Day Late and a Dollar Short

Way back in April I started to work on a cute banner for my mantle…flash forward to the start of June and Voila, it’s done!!!  Now, you might be thinking that it was a very labor intensive project, alas it was not.

034

I used my Silhouette to cut out all of the pieces and some cute paper I found at Michaels.  I attached the banner to the ribbon with staples.  I like the mix of the daintiness and hardware.

I think that before I put it out next year, I might outline the letters to make them pop a little more.  You can’t really see it well, but the banner spells out SRING.  Here are some close ups.

Where did all my time go?

If anyone is still out there, all I can say is where did all my time go?!?!  Oh blog land, how I’ve missed you.  My last post was over 3 months ago and since that time I have a stack of half finished craft projects accumulating on what used to be known as my desk.

Times have changed a lot in my house.  My wonderful husband lost his job back in January and I took on bread-winner responsibilities.  Fortunately enough, a full-time position at my work opened at the same time and I was able to get it.  We were also swamped and was able to plenty of overtime.  I feel very blessed that things happened the way the did and know that everything could have been a lot worse.

To top it all off, I have decided to buy a house on my own and am now getting the run around on this short-sale.  Thus is life though, right?

Writing this post feels like putting on a favorite pair of sweatpants, just right!  I’m in the process of finishing several projects this weekend and will hopefully be able to get them posted.

Adventures in Sewing

I have been computer-less for over a week.  My wonderful hubby got a new job that required him to take away my lifeline all week.  I did get a small reprieve when I went into work all weekend, but I only got a few minutes break.  It is kind of sad how addicted I am!

Anyways, enough rambling.  Here is one of the latest projects I have been working on.

006

I make a fabulous model don’t I?  I guess I should dress up a little better on my crafting days just in case I need to be in a photo.  I probably looked a little spiffier than I do sitting in my pajamas right now!

One of my goals for 2011 was to learn to sew.  I chose a package of apron patterns that looked cute and found this fabric that I absolutely loved.  I had no clue how much to buy or how to read the back of the package, but I asked for several yards and ran.

009

Here’s a close up of the fabric.  Isn’t it perfect for an apron?  Well I bought a lot of it so stay tuned for a little sundress I’m going to make for Katie.

003

Shout out to my mom, Bev at Make Good Cheer.  She is taking the time to show me how to sew just how her mother and grandmother did for her.  I am so excited to pass this new little tradition on to Katie some day.

Cash Envelope Wallet System

005
I made another set of paper envelopes to use in my wallet.  I used my Silhouette machine to cut them out and used ribbon to “stitch” them together.  I made five that I knew I would be commonly using.
004
I also added a small piece of cardstock to the back of the envelopes to slide into my wallet.  And here is the finished product!
002
So far, the cash envelope system is working really well for us.  The cash envelopes I’ve made have really made it easy to organize everything and are cute at the same time!  My husband is really getting on board with the program, so we can keep on truckin’!

Barrette Boards

I whipped these babies up the other day in my kitchen.  I needed a cute and inexpensive gift to give a co-worker for her baby shower.  I also wanted one for myself since I have already lost several of my daughters barrettes.  The frames were on sale at Michael’s for $4.oo each.  The black and white fabric was from a bundle of quilting squares I had leftover from my desktop flip calendars.

This fabric was from the back portion of my daughter’s bed skirt.  Her bed is up against the wall so you don’t see it anyways.  This one was the first one I made and I didn’t notice that the fabric had become crooked.

I love the simple embellishments on each of them and I hope my co-worker does too!

Pretty Cash Envelopes

My family and I are following a cash envelope budget system to help manage our finances.  I decided to whip out my Silhouette and a jumbo pack of paper to create these cute cash envelopes.  I used the print and cut feature to create a tab for each category.  It makes dishing out all that cash a little cuter!
